Baby Name Numerology: Free Name Number Calculator
This baby name numerology tool assigns values from 1 to 9 to the letters of a candidate name, adds them and reduces the total. It is free, browser-only and shows the letter values. Explore the arithmetic without treating it as a way to choose the right name, measure luck or determine a child's destiny.

Calculate a candidate name's number
A free number exercise for parents. No account needed. Input stays in your browser; it is not saved or sent anywhere.
Numerology is not a scientific assessment. Do not base health, development, education or naming decisions on this number.
What a name number actually calculates
Choosing a name can involve sound, spelling, meaning, family connections and many other considerations. Numerology can be an optional symbolic interest alongside those questions, not a replacement for them. This calculator adds the letter values of the candidate name you enter. It does not ask for a surname or a person's full official identity. Accordingly, we do not present the result as a full-name destiny, expression or personality report. A small calculation using one name cannot explain a child's entire life or relationships.
Small spelling changes can alter the total, as can adding a second given name. That does not mean a child will become more successful or happier with a different spelling. Many names share a total. Our purpose is to make the method visible and let you compare candidates if you find that interesting. We do not rank a name as best, lucky or dangerous. The result does not create a reason to worry, purchase a correction or abandon a name you already like.
The A–Z mapping and Turkish transliteration
The selected modern Latin mapping assigns A a value of 1 and continues through 9, repeating the cycle. The groups are A, J, S for 1; B, K, T for 2; C, L, U for 3; D, M, V for 4; E, N, W for 5; F, O, X for 6; G, P, Y for 7; H, Q, Z for 8; and I, R for 9. This is an explicitly chosen mapping, not a claim that every historical numerology tradition uses one universal alphabet.
Turkish characters are explicitly transliterated: Ç becomes C, Ğ becomes G, Ö becomes O, Ş becomes S and Ü becomes U. Dotted and dotless forms of I are treated as I here. As a result, different Turkish spellings can share the same total. Spaces, hyphens and straight apostrophes have no number value; two given names are counted together. Digits, emoji and unsupported scripts produce a clear error instead of being silently discarded. Compare these rules first when another calculator shows a different result.
Follow the Deniz and Çağla examples
For Deniz, the values are D=4, E=5, N=5, I=9 and Z=8. The total is 4 + 5 + 5 + 9 + 8 = 31, followed by 3 + 1 = 4. For Çağla, the tool first uses CAGLA: C=3, A=1, G=7, L=3 and A=1. The total is 15, reducing to 6. Both the normalized letters and calculation lines are visible. You can identify exactly which spelling or arithmetic rule explains a difference instead of assuming one unexplained result must be correct.
When 11, 22 or 33 appears during reduction, this tool preserves it and also shows its base of 2, 4 or 6. Other totals are reduced until a single digit remains. This classification does not identify a better name or a superior child. Evaluate pronunciation, the family's languages, practical spelling and cultural meaning independently of the number. A short, transparent result is not an incomplete service: it is more honest than an elaborate but unverified account of what a future life will look like.
Keep the number separate from your naming decision
If you have a shortlist, add the number only as an optional curiosity column. How is the name pronounced? Can family members use the intended spelling? What does its meaning represent to you? How does it sound beside a second name? Those questions do not depend on numerology. A higher displayed value is not better. You do not need to reject a favorite name because its number worries you. Naming can be a meaningful family choice without handing that decision to one symbolic rule.
The tool does not recommend names based on a baby's gender, claim a name will attract money or success, or produce a family compatibility percentage. You can compare two spellings to observe the arithmetic difference, not to compare two future lives. A child's later experience of their name and identity also belongs to them. A numerology label should not override that experience. The optional play prompt beneath the result is simply an activity idea; you can choose another prompt or ignore it altogether.
Try a candidate without sharing a full identity
Enter only a candidate name. There is no need to add a surname, birth date, school or address. The free calculation runs in the browser: the name is not sent to a server, saved to an adult profile, added to the page URL or restored on a later visit. Clear input removes both input and result. Even if you have opted into site analytics, letter values, names and resulting numbers are not included in that event. Sharing a screenshot is a separate choice; consider whether you want to share the candidate itself.
UNICEF's online safety guidance highlights protecting children's personal information. We use the minimum information for this optional exercise rather than collect a full identity. To calculate a life path number, use the separate child numerology tool. Baby astrology is a different method that calculates sky positions from a date, time and birthplace. Do not treat these tools as interchangeable reports or replace your adult birth profile with a child's information. Start each calculation by checking its scope, inputs and limitations.

Common questions
Does name numerology determine a baby's destiny?
No. Letter mapping and addition are a selected symbolic method, not a scientific assessment of personality or future outcomes. You do not have to base a naming decision on the result.
Are Turkish characters and two given names supported?
Yes. The disclosed Turkish characters are transliterated and both names are counted together. Spaces, hyphens and straight apostrophes are ignored. Unsupported scripts produce an error rather than being silently removed.
