Astrological aspects: the angles behind the lines.
Learn the measured degrees and orb gap behind five major aspects. Start reading connections in your chart without turning them into fate claims.
A precise aspect list needs reliable birth time and city; the basic chart is free.
Quick reference
Five major aspects.
The degrees are geometric targets; orb is the distance from the target. The orb limits below are Baby Astro's upper bounds for pairs without the Sun or Moon. A pair involving either luminary receives 1.5° more.

| Aspect | Target | Orb limit | Reading prompt |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conjunction | 0° | ≤ 8° | How do these functions combine? |
| Sextile | 60° | ≤ 4° | What opportunity could be used? |
| Square | 90° | ≤ 6° | Which tension asks for effort? |
| Trine | 120° | ≤ 7° | What flows more easily? |
| Opposition | 180° | ≤ 8° | How can two poles be balanced? |
At a glance
Four distinctions before interpreting.
Angles are calculated
The shortest angular distance between two planetary longitudes is calculated. The aspect names the target angle it approaches.
Orb is the gap
If Mars and Venus are 92° apart, they are 2° from an exact square: a 2° orb. That is geometric proximity, not certainty of interpretation.
Context matters
One-line claims such as every square is bad or every trine is good skip the planets and life context involved.

What is an astrological aspect?
An aspect is a relationship between two planets' zodiacal longitudes. Measure the shorter way around the circle and their separation falls between 0° and 180°. Traditional astrology names several geometric targets: conjunction at 0°, sextile at 60°, square at 90°, trine at 120° and opposition at 180°. Those targets are calculable geometry, not an interpretation. Before saying two planets form a square, check whether their actual separation is close to 90°.
Baby Astro searches for these five major aspects in the natal chart. If a pair sits within more than one allowed target range, the engine selects the smallest orb difference and sorts the results by closeness. The symbol and number on screen come from calculated positions, not an AI invention. An aspect's presence still cannot determine what will happen in a relationship or career; symbolic reading is a separate step.

How are the five major aspects read?
A conjunction brings two planetary functions into the same part of the chart; it is not automatically good or bad. A sextile is traditionally read as two themes that may cooperate, a square as friction or effort, a trine as a more flowing connection, and an opposition as a question of balancing two poles. These are starting questions, not verdicts. A Moon–Venus square might invite reflection on emotional needs and expression of affection; it does not mean a relationship will fail.
The planets involved, their signs and houses, and whether a theme repeats elsewhere all change the reading. In synastry, an aspect between one person's Venus and another's Mars is not their entire compatibility score. A table that turns one square into a red flag or one trine into a guarantee misses the complexity of actual relationships. Read your own natal aspects first in the free chart; cross-person aspects belong to a separate synastry calculation.
What is an orb, and which limits does Baby Astro use?
Orb is the gap between the measured angle and its exact target. If Venus and Mars are 92° apart, their square is 2° away from the 90° target and has a 2° orb. An exact square has a 0° orb. A smaller number is a closer geometric match, not a scientifically measured percentage of influence over a person. Astrologers choose different allowed orbs, which is why two chart tools can list different numbers of aspects for the same birth data.
In Baby Astro's natal engine, the maximum orb for pairs excluding the Sun and Moon is 8° for conjunction and opposition, 7° for trine, 6° for square and 4° for sextile. If either body is the Sun or Moon, the limit widens by 1.5°. These are the app's inclusion rules, not universal laws of astrology. The result displays the measured orb to one decimal place. A wide aspect just inside its limit need not be treated like an almost-exact 0.3° contact.
How do you find the aspects in your own chart?
Calculate a free birth chart with date, a documented time if available, and city. In the chart's aspect list, read the two planet names, then the symbol and orb. Choose one line. What function does each planet represent, where are they placed by house, and what concrete question does their connection raise for you? Starting with one checkable link is more useful than trying to interpret every line across the wheel at once.
If the birth time is unknown, the Moon's position and time-sensitive aspects may change. Baby Astro does not show a full exact-aspect table as though the birth moment were certain. Read the unknown-birth-time guide or compare both ends of a known time interval.
