MC ↔ IC
Calculate the angle here.
Choose your date, recorded time and birth city. If your hour is unknown, this tool gives no MC; the guide below explains why.

A distinct sky point
The MC is where the ecliptic meets your local meridian at birth. It cannot be inferred from a Sun sign or job list.
Time and city required
Local birth time and city longitude shape the calculation. We give no personal MC when the hour is unknown.
IC sits opposite
The displayed IC lies 180 zodiac degrees opposite the calculated MC. They are not two independent guesses.
How is a Midheaven sign calculated?
The Midheaven, or Medium Coeli (MC), is the direction where the celestial meridian intersects the ecliptic at birth. In tropical astrology its longitude falls within one of twelve equal zodiac sectors. This free calculator constructs your birth instant from a selected city and recorded local clock time. It converts that clock reading with the city's historical time zone, then uses sidereal time and the ecliptic's tilt to find the geometric MC longitude. The sector gives the sign; the position inside it gives the degree.
Select the city where you were born from the suggestions. A substitute city can move the degree because its longitude differs, and historical daylight-saving rules can shift the instant. The result is only as accurate as the hour you enter. If the minute is unknown or the time comes from a family estimate, do not treat a sign-boundary result as certain. The form is free, runs in your browser and does not send birth details to our server.

How do MC, the tenth house and IC differ?
The MC is a geometric angle. In quadrant house systems such as Placidus it coincides with the tenth-house cusp. In whole-sign or equal houses that cusp can be somewhere else, so calling any tenth cusp the geometric MC would be misleading. This tool calculates the MC itself, independent of house-system choice. To ask which house contains it, first choose the chart's house method. Our separate tenth-house guide explains that distinction and why an empty tenth house is ordinary.
The IC, or Imum Coeli, is directly opposite the MC. Traditional readings associate it with private life, roots and belonging. We derive the displayed IC by adding 180 degrees to the calculated MC longitude, rather than estimating a second point. Reading this public-private axis together can be more useful than asking the MC alone to name your future job. Neither point is a personality test or evidence of future success.
How should you use a Midheaven sign?
In astrological interpretation the MC is a prompt to reflect on public visibility, direction and responsibility. Instead of reading a job-matching table, ask what contribution you would like others to see and what maintaining it asks of your everyday life. Two people with the same MC sign can have very different skills, training and finances. A zodiac label cannot know those circumstances or guarantee a salary or career outcome.
For more context, inspect the planets and tenth-house cusp in your free birth chart, then compare how the chosen house system treats the MC. If you used an approximate birth hour, look for a birth certificate or official record first. If the hour is unavailable, begin with Sun and some planetary signs that do not require one, instead of setting a fictional noon in this calculator. A deeper personal reading is optional; the paid plan's scope and local price appear before checkout.
